Changing Your Attitude About Yourself
Almost 10 years ago, Chuck bought me a Golden Retriever puppy from a lady who bred Champions. I looked through my baby book for the perfect name for my dog and came up with "Farrah", which means, "Beautiful" and beautiful she is!
This was the day we picked her out of the litter. She was just a little bit naughty, which is what I wanted. When it was meal time, she was the one in the middle of feeding dish that was to be shared by ALL her siblings. We had to wait a few more weeks before bringing her home.
We have learned so much with her. We started out by taking her to puppy class and then on to Obedience class. We've entered her in Obedience Contests and have won 1st, 3rd and 4th place! She has been so much fun!
As soon as I brought her home, she met Alexandria Maxine (Allie), our cat who was 4 years old at the time. Allie let Farrah know right away that she was the boss around the house and she wasn't going to put up with any nonsense from a pup. With Allie's nails firmly in place on Farrah's snout, she heeded to her new big sister's request of being nice. And so began a beautiful relationship between two natural born enemies.
Farrah & Allie meet for the first time. I don't think Farrah really knew what she was at first, but within just a few minutes, Allie let her know that SHE was the boss around the house.
The day after bringing home baby Farrah, we saw the "retriever" part of her. At 7 weeks old she was already retrieving a ball we threw for her, bringing it back to us to throw again...over and over and over. OY!
Almost immediately we discovered that she had two fetishes...Trash and Shoes! We're not sure which one she loves the most, but I think it's shoes. We used to find her sound asleep amongst a pile of shoes. Yeah, that's a comfort zone for her I guess.
This was a "normal" sleeping pattern for Farrah when she was younger. Since then, we have bought a shoe rack. :)
When people come to the house, she always greets them with a shoe (if one is readily available) or a duck or something that's not allowed if the other two are not available. She is a firm believer in loving everyone and offering them a love gift just for visiting. She has never noticed fat, skinny, black, white, ugly, stinky (actually, she really likes stinky), lack of personality, etc. All she ever notices in people is the opportunity for a new friend and a chance to show some love. If only I could carry such an awesome trait!
She has been a key point in my weight loss success and I am so grateful for all she's done for me.
This is the day I picked her up in San Marcos, TX. We have both changed since then. :)
Here's a picture of Farrah today.
Here's to you, Farrah! You have been a blessing to me and to our family and we love you!
